An Interview with the Feichin Farm President

Today I am interviewing my mom because she's the farm president and we are celebrating our 5th year of Feichin Farm!

What is your favorite chore?

My mom is going to kill me for putting this picture up of her - but my mom really loves Indie Cow.

“Feeding graham crackers to the cows. I am not sure your Dad would say that is a chore that needs to be done, but it's my favorite."

Who is your favorite farm animal?

“I have a little thing in my heart for Quackers, and Indie is just so pretty. Of course my favorite used to be Tina. (R.I.P.)”

What does it feel like being a farm president?

Tina - our Turkey. She followed mom around the yard like a dog and she used to eat all the blackberries.

“It's a lot of responsibility. When we started

this 5 years ago on St. Patrick's day, we wanted to carry on some of the things we learned in Alaska - Like knowing where your food comes from and how to be good stewards of the land and it was important for us to raise you and sissy with these lessons as well. “

What is your favorite memory of the farm.

“ There are many top memories, but my favorite memory with you on the farm was when you and I were picking weeds in the garden one July and it was hot. We didn't want to be out there. And you said ‘Mom, I think I'm a city kid.” And I said “You can be a city kid when you're 18.”

A note from my mom: Farming is hard. It isn't the easy choice - ever. But hard doesn't mean bad. It just means hard. Farming has taught me humility, to leave my ego at the door as what you think you know is not true the next year, and to enjoy every bit of the tomato you grew - because you sweat your ass off getting it to survive. This spring - I hope everyone who reads this considers choosing the hard - and maybe even grow a tomato plant. I promise it is worth it.

Cheers and happy St. Paddy's Day!
